the way enforcing harmful and patriarchal beauty standards has gotten rebranded as “self care” and something that is no longer done to please men but now something that is “liberating” and something you do “for you” now is fucking insidious . taking your four year old daughter to watch you get laser hair removal is not “teaching her about self care” it’s teaching her that there is something wrong with her from a very young age, and that she’ll need to spend the rest of her life getting it fixed . you cannot reframe indoctrinating your own fucking daughter into this as a girlboss self care queen move . this is insane.

my step mom was asking me more questions about the nonbinary thing and after talking to me for a bit, she said “oh, so youre a rosé! not a chardonnay transitioning to a merlot, just your own unique type” which was such a middle aged white woman way to frame it, but i cannot lie gang. it did make me want to cry
This is so sweet. This reminded me of when I was socially transitioning and still half in my family’s religious community, I was talking to one of the older women who I really respected in the community about my name change and trying to explain my feelings about gender. And this very conservative Japanese woman whose seen me grow up my whole life goes: “Oh, like an angel. Angels have both male and female, because God has both. You’re like an angel.” One of the most touching things I’ve ever heard in response to my queerness.
